THE STORY

Behind the name

Located within the ‘Old Town’ of Coonawarra this Cabernet vineyard was planted in the early 1950’s.

The combination of old-vines, terrior and careful hand-tending produces a wine with a distinguished sense of place and style.

Despite its age, the ‘House Block’ vineyard, located within the township of Coonawarra continues to flourish with deep roots reaching through the Terra-Rossa and Limestone to the pure aquifer below.

THE STORY

Winemaking

The ‘Old Town’ Cabernet vines are situated in the Coonawarra township and receive extra care, with hand-pruning and picking.

Picked in late March, the small but concentrated berries reached peak ripeness and flavour prior to being hand-picked and then berry sorted. A small volume of only three tonnes was fermented in open top stainless steel, hand plunged several times daily to achieve maximum extraction of colour and flavour, while maintaining delicate tannins.

After approximately seven days the parcel was pumped into a selection of French oak barrels for maturation. The parcel was racked twice during 18 months of aging with the barrels each individually classified and selected for the final wine.

The final blend of only 2000 Litres resulted in a limited release of approximately 200 dozen. Enjoy now or cellar from 5-20 years.
